This week, our Sabbath school lesson made a clear disctinction between sins of ignorance and sins of defiance. Would anyone like to dicuss the difference?
Our Sabbath class too identified the difference between the two. While sins done in ignorance are sins committed without prior knowledge of the action being performed as written in Leviticus 4:27. Sins done in ignorance were the only sins that a sacrifice would cover. Jesus' blood only covers sins that are done in ignorance or past sins see Romans 3:23-25. Sins of defiance (or those done intentionally/willful sin) the Lord says there's no sacrifice (forgiveness) for that. Which means that unlike the common belief that the Lord forgives all sins past, present and future -- the Bible teaches otherwise. Read Numbers 15:29-30 it expounds on this issue even further. Hebrews 10:26-27 tells what one can expect should they choose to sin after knowing better.
I agree, Devin williams, also if you continue to read on in Hebrews 10:28-30,shows distinctively that you will be sinning against the law given to Moses, by God, that most churches preach that we, as servants of God, dont have to do. Jesus himself states the importance of moses law in Matthew 5:17-20, and how you will be judged if its taught correct or incorrect ( which if taught incorrect can lead to sin). Romans 1:18-32 also gives the outcome and types of sins that will be committed by the people willfully, (due to the teachings that the laws and commandments given to moses are done away with), and acknowledges the judgement on them all. Jesus also expresses the reward of an obediant servant and an willful sinner in luke12:41-48.
